1 The Acts of the Apostles - The Urgency of the Last Message

The timing of the message from Jesus to the apostles to be witnesses signifies its great importance. These parting words from Jesus to the disciples were the last thing He said before His ascension to Heaven. One can liken this to last words of a dying father to his children, they are often the most important words he would have ever said to them. I imagine the sense of urgency and importance Jesus placed on the last message that was delivered before leaving the earth to return again at an unknown time.

The message to the Apostles not to focus on the restoration of the Kingdom to Israel but to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the Earth applies to modern day Christians also. It should be treated with just as much importance and urgency as the last commandment before the ascension as we will not know the day or the hour of His second coming.
