Chapter 1

In this introductory chapter, Luke recapped the life and times of Jesus Christ - his teachings and the miracles He performed. The disciples were instructed to meet together and wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit which is greater than the water baptism John performed(vs 4-5). One of the things the Holy Spirit will do when the apostles receive him will be to enable them and give them the power to preach the gospel with boldness. This ability to preach the gospel is vital because the apostles were uneducated and had just witnessed the trial and killing of Jesus Christ. The disciples were terrified and Peter deserted Christ. Also, it was after the death and resurrection of Christ that the disciples understood that  God's kingdom was not the physical restoration of Israel but a spiritual one.
As the disciples and other followers awaited the Holy Spirit, they communed together. This fellowship also drew others into the kingdom
